Job Description
Vodacom Tanzania is seeking an experienced M-Pesa IMT Manager to lead the growth, profitability, operational performance, and regulatory compliance of M-Pesa’s international money transfer and cross-border payments portfolio.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that expand international remittance corridors, introduce new cross-border payment use cases, strengthen strategic partnerships, improve customer experience, and ensure the effective operation of inbound and outbound payment services.
The role will act as the commercial and operational custodian of the cross-border payments business, balancing revenue growth, customer value, partner management, treasury optimisation, operational risk, and regulatory compliance.
Role Purpose
The M-Pesa IMT Manager will drive the development and growth of Vodacom M-Pesa’s international remittance and cross-border payment services.
The role will focus on expanding partnerships with:

International Money Transfer Operators.

Mobile Network Operators.

Banks and financial institutions.

Fintech companies.
-
Payment hubs and other strategic partners.
The position will also ensure seamless customer journeys across inbound and outbound international payment services while positioning M-Pesa as a preferred cross-border payments platform.
Key Responsibilities
Business Growth and Strategy

Develop and implement the cross-border payments growth strategy in line with M-Pesa’s financial services objectives.

Identify new revenue opportunities within international remittances and cross-border payment services.
-
Develop opportunities in wallet-to-wallet transfers, merchant payments, and emerging international payment corridors.
-
Monitor customer needs, market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments.
-
Identify opportunities for expanding international remittance corridors and strategic partnerships.
-
Support the development of innovative cross-border payment products and customer propositions.
-
Drive sustainable revenue and transaction growth across the international money transfer portfolio.
Cross-Border Payment Operations
-
Ensure smooth end-to-end operation of cross-border payment services.
-
Monitor transaction success rates and overall service availability.
-
Identify and resolve operational issues affecting customer transactions.
-
Work with relevant internal and external stakeholders to maintain reliable payment services.
-
Ensure customer experiences remain efficient and seamless across inbound and outbound payment journeys.
-
Support continuous improvement of operational processes and service delivery.
Partner and Relationship Management
-
Identify and onboard International Money Transfer Operators and other payment partners.
-
Build and maintain strong relationships with Money Transfer Operators, Mobile Network Operators, Banks, Fintechs, and Payment Hubs.

Manage existing partner relationships to support business growth.
-
Coordinate with partners to address operational, commercial, and service-delivery issues.
-
Identify partnership opportunities that can expand M-Pesa’s international payments business.
Compliance and Risk Management
-
Ensure strict adherence to Know Your Customer requirements.
-
Enforce Customer Due Diligence and Enhanced Due Diligence requirements.
-
Ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Financing of Terrorism policies.
-
Monitor cross-border payment activities for suspicious transactions and potential financial crime risks.
-
Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, fraud, and regulatory risks.
-
Ensure full compliance with Bank of Tanzania regulations.
-
Ensure cross-border payment operations comply with applicable international payment requirements.
-
Maintain appropriate controls to protect M-Pesa, customers, and partners from financial and regulatory risks.
Reconciliation and Reporting
-
Verify and reconcile daily cross-border transactions.
-
Monitor and manage partner accounts.
-
Ensure transaction records are accurate and properly maintained.
-
Prepare regular operational and business performance reports.
-
Produce daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management.
-
Monitor relevant commercial and operational performance indicators.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance and Banking, or a related field.
Knowledge and Experience
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:

Strong knowledge and practical experience in cross-border payment operations.

Good understanding of international money transfer and remittance services.

Strong understanding of operational risk within mobile money or banking environments.

Knowledge of KYC requirements.

Knowledge of AML/CFT requirements applicable to remittance businesses.

Understanding of financial regulations and compliance requirements.

Ability to work effectively with payment partners and financial institutions.

Good understanding of commercial and technical requirements within digital financial services.
