Job Description

Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Legal Officer to provide legal and compliance support to the Head of Legal for Pan-Africa (Anglophone), with particular focus on the company’s cement operations in Tanzania.

The successful candidate will support legal compliance, contract management, regulatory filings, corporate governance, dispute resolution, and other legal matters affecting the business.

The role requires a strong understanding of Tanzanian corporate, commercial, labour, environmental, and regulatory law, together with the ability to work effectively across multiple jurisdictions and with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Purpose

The Legal Officer will support the company in ensuring that its operations comply with applicable Tanzanian laws, regulatory requirements, internal policies, and corporate governance standards.

The position will also provide legal support on commercial contracts, statutory filings, disputes, litigation, regulatory engagement, and regional legal matters.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory and Compliance

  • Provide legal advice on Tanzanian laws relevant to the cement industry.

  • Advise on applicable legislation including the Companies Act, Environmental Management Act, Employment and Labour Relations Act, Mining Act, and other relevant laws.

  • Monitor changes in legal and regulatory requirements affecting company operations.

  • Ensure compliance with local and regional legal requirements.

  • Support implementation of group-wide compliance initiatives in Tanzania.

  • Provide legal guidance to internal departments on business and operational matters.

Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts.

  • Review supply agreements, service contracts, Memoranda of Understanding, and other business agreements.

  • Maintain an organised and up-to-date contract database.

  • Monitor contract expiry and renewal dates.

  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

  • Support management in identifying and addressing contractual risks.

Regulatory and Statutory Filings

  • Liaise with relevant regulatory and government authorities.

  • Engage with the Tanzania Revenue Authority and Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) when required.

  • Support timely preparation and submission of statutory filings.

  • Maintain accurate corporate and legal records.

  • Ensure statutory requirements are completed within applicable timelines.

Dispute Resolution and Litigation Support

  • Assist in managing labour, commercial, environmental, and other legal disputes.

  • Support internal teams in evaluating and responding to legal claims.

  • Coordinate with external legal counsel where required.

  • Monitor litigation matters and provide updates on case progress.

  • Assist in implementing appropriate dispute-resolution strategies.

Corporate Governance

  • Support Board and Committee meetings.

  • Prepare resolutions, minutes, compliance reports, and other governance documents.

  • Ensure adherence to internal corporate governance frameworks.

  • Support compliance with group policies and governance standards.

  • Review company policies and procedures from a legal perspective where required.

Cross-Border Legal Coordination

  • Collaborate with legal teams in other Pan-African jurisdictions.

  • Support harmonisation of legal practices across the organisation.

  • Share legal knowledge and best practices with regional teams.

  • Provide legal support for regional projects, transactions, and initiatives.

  • Assist with legal matters involving more than one jurisdiction.

  • Perform any other legal duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognised university.

  • Admission to the Bar in Tanzania will be an added advantage.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification experience in corporate or commercial law.

  • Experience in the manufacturing or extractive sector will be an advantage.

  • Experience working with multinational organisations or Pan-African operations will be desirable.

  • Fluency in both Kiswahili and English.

  • Strong professional writing skills.
