Job Purpose
The Airleg Operator will be responsible for operating airleg drilling equipment used for drilling blast holes during underground mining activities.
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out drilling work accurately according to approved mine plans, technical requirements, and instructions provided by supervisors. The role also involves maintaining drilling equipment, observing underground safety procedures, and contributing toward daily mining production targets.
Key Responsibilities
Airleg Drilling Operations
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Setting up, positioning, and operating airleg drilling machines according to underground mine plans and supervisor instructions.

Identifying and marking drilling locations before accurately drilling blast holes.

Ensuring holes are drilled according to required specifications to achieve proper fragmentation and reduce unnecessary overbreak.

Monitoring underground ground conditions and adjusting drilling techniques where necessary.

Supporting charging and blast preparation activities when required.

Assisting with other underground mining and production duties assigned by the supervisor.
Equipment Inspection and Maintenance
The Airleg Operator will also be expected to:

Conduct pre-start inspections before operating drilling equipment.

Inspect airleg drills, drill bits, rods, hoses, and related equipment during and after shifts.

Carry out basic equipment maintenance where required.

Immediately report equipment faults, mechanical problems, damaged components, and unsafe conditions.

Handle drilling equipment correctly to minimize breakdowns and improve equipment availability.
Safety and Workplace Compliance
The successful applicant must:

Follow all applicable underground mining safety regulations and company procedures.

Work according to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Participate in hazard identification and risk-control activities.

Maintain a clean and safe working environment, particularly in confined underground areas.

Complete required equipment inspection records and daily production reports.

Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
Education and Certification

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).

A certificate or formal qualification in Underground Mining Operations will be considered an added advantage.

A valid Tanzanian driving licence covering Classes B, C, D, and E.

Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmission.

Valid equipment operator licences or certificates for any equipment the candidate claims to be qualified to operate.
Experience and Technical Skills
Candidates should have:

At least three years of experience working in underground mining or construction operations.

Practical experience operating airleg drilling equipment in an underground mining environment.

Good understanding of underground drilling techniques and procedures.

Knowledge of underground mining safety requirements.

Basic knowledge of drilling equipment inspection and maintenance.
