Job Description
The Barrick North Mara Team is seeking an experienced and qualified Cable Bolter Trainer to join its underground mining operations team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for training local employees to a high standard in Cable Bolter operations while also supporting safe, efficient, and compliant underground ground-support activities.
The role requires strong practical experience in underground drilling and cable bolting, sound knowledge of ground-support standards, and a strong commitment to safety, technical excellence, and skills development.

Key Responsibilities
The Cable Bolter Trainer will be responsible for:
-
Training local employees to achieve a high level of competence in Cable Bolter operations.
-
Supporting Barrick’s safety culture and Journey to Zero by complying with all health, safety, environmental, and operational standards.
-
Drilling ground-support holes in accordance with mine specifications.
-
Installing cable bolts and grouting them according to approved ground-support requirements.
-
Ensuring drilling is completed to the correct depth and avoiding over-drilling or under-drilling.
-
Working in accordance with approved plans, layouts, and geotechnical requirements.
-
Following mark-ups in line with geological, statutory, and survey specifications.

Working closely with technical and supervisory personnel on quality and safety initiatives.

Ensuring end-of-shift reports are accurate and up to date.
-
Performing visual inspections of equipment before and during operation.
-
Identifying defects and abnormalities and reporting them promptly to the Supervisor.

Operating equipment according to mining requirements and Standard Operating Procedures.

Supporting achievement of daily bolting targets.
-
Maintaining good housekeeping standards around equipment and work areas.
-
Supporting safe and efficient underground mining operations at all times.
Qualification Requirements
Applicants should possess:

Tertiary education or Ordinary Secondary Education.
-
Valid driving licence.
-
Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering will be considered an added advantage.
Experience and Competencies
The ideal candidate should have:

At least 3–5 years of practical experience operating a Cable Bolter in an underground mining environment.

Strong underground drilling knowledge and practical skills.
-
Previous experience operating Sandvik or Atlas Copco Cable Bolters will be an advantage.

Ability to read and interpret cable bolt layouts.
-
Strong knowledge and understanding of ground-support standards.
-
Sound knowledge of underground mining practices and operations.
-
Good understanding of Safety, Health, and Environmental legislation and standards applicable to underground mining.

Ability to work effectively with trainees, technical staff, and supervisors.

Strong commitment to safe work practices and operational discipline.
