Consultancy for Generating Evidence on Gender-Based Violence Jobs at UMATI - August 2026

Chama cha Uzazi na Malezi Bora Tanzania (UMATI) is seeking a qualified consultant for a Consultancy for Generating Evidence on Gender-Based Violence to Inform Advocacy for Survivor Protection Frameworks and Policies. The assignment is based at UMATI Headquarters in Dar es Salaam and reports to the Head of Programs.

Consultancy Overview

The assignment will generate credible evidence on gender-based violence in Tanzania, focusing on Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Geita and Mwanza, to support advocacy for stronger survivor-protection frameworks and policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Review national surveys, government publications, legal and policy documents, project reports and partner data.
• Assess GBV prevalence, patterns, drivers and impacts across the project regions.
• Assess survivor-centred prevention, protection and response mechanisms.
• Map GBV data sources, services and referral pathways.
• Analyze quantitative and qualitative evidence and identify gaps in protection and access to justice.
• Prepare study findings, policy recommendations, datasets and presentation materials.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Master's degree or postgraduate qualification in Legal Practice, Gender, Public Health, Law, Sociology or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience leading GBV research in Tanzania with published work.
• Strong experience in survivor-centred ethical research, mixed methods, data analysis and policy-brief writing.
• Knowledge of Tanzania GBV laws, the Maputo Protocol and justice-sector actors.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
