Job Description
Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a highly experienced Senior Transport Manager (Operations) to oversee fleet operations at its Mtwara Plant in Tanzania.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and managing fleet operations, supervising fleet managers and their teams, ensuring truck availability and compliance, improving operational efficiency, supporting maintenance activities, and ensuring that transport operations meet company standards, customer expectations, and applicable transport regulations.
The role requires extensive experience in transport and logistics operations, strong leadership ability, excellent fleet management knowledge, and the capacity to manage a large-scale, service-driven transport operation.
Key Roles and Responsibilities

Coordinate and manage the activities of Fleet Managers and their respective teams.

Ensure trucks comply with operational and maintenance requirements while maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Lead strategic fleet planning through continuous evaluation of the company’s truck fleet and develop short-, medium-, and long-term plans to improve fleet efficiency, effectiveness, and cost performance.

Advise management on actions required to reduce fleet operating costs.

Conduct annual performance appraisals for fleet personnel under the role’s supervision.

Provide general supervision over the use and management of the truck fleet and bring any unsatisfactory operational issues to management’s attention.

Ensure regular review, monitoring, and reporting of truck maintenance and fleet asset performance.

Plan and coordinate transport responsibilities in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Supervise the scheduling and movement of trucks.
-
Participate in the design and implementation of DCT’s fleet management strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure alignment with truck operations.

Coordinate the implementation of fleet operational plans in line with approved guidelines.
-
Manage and monitor the performance of Fleet Managers to achieve operational synergies and fleet targets.
-
Coordinate with the maintenance unit to ensure trucks remain in good working condition.

Improve fleet availability and utilization while reducing downtime and addressing deviations from approved routes.

Ensure Fleet Managers comply with company regulations and applicable freight transportation laws.

Proactively identify operational risks, challenges, and improvement opportunities within fleet operations.

Work with recovery teams to ensure impounded, damaged, or accident-involved trucks are returned to operational condition within agreed timelines.

Plan, develop, and implement a truck replacement schedule.

Remain updated on developments in logistics, transportation laws, and relevant regulatory requirements.

Identify and coordinate training requirements for fleet operations employees.

Participate in safety committee meetings.
-
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
-
Conduct regular toolbox and safety meetings with team members.
-
Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Transport or Management.

Educational Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate should possess:

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Transport and Logistics.
-
Master’s degree with specialization in Transport and Logistics will be preferred.

Preferably 25 years of relevant professional experience, including at least 15 years of specific experience in transport operations.

Proven ability to operate effectively in a high-volume, service-driven transport environment.
