Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is recruiting2 Research Officersbased at itsDar es Salaam Officeto support the Map EA Node Project. The role reports to the Senior Research Scientist and supports data science, analytical modelling, research dissemination and small-project implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake literature reviews, data searches and extraction of metrics for modelling work.
- Obtain, manage, process and analyse a variety of datasets.
- Use Excel, ArcGIS/QGIS, STATA, R, Python and related tools to analyse data and create reports, maps and visualisations.
- Select, follow and adapt data-extraction and manipulation protocols.
- Support data-use best practices, backups, documentation and data-processing procedures.
- Contribute to reports, peer-reviewed publications, posters and engagement with collaborators.
- Lead, design and implement small projects contributing to the MAP project's objectives.
- Follow workplace health, safety and institutional policies.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering or a similar quantitative discipline.
- Experience managing, analysing, interpreting, wrangling and manipulating data using multiple software platforms.
- R software skills are essential.
- Experience developing or delivering training for different audiences.
- Experience working with spatial data and GIS tools.
- Knowledge of malaria or other vector-borne diseases and public health is useful.
- Excellent English communication skills; French, Spanish or Portuguese is an advantage.
