VETA Payment Portal Tanzania: Payment and Verification Guide

The VETA Payment Portal is one of the online systems used by the Vocational Education and Training Authority in Tanzania to manage payment-related services.

VETA currently provides a dedicated Payments Portal through its VETMIS system. The public page asks for a username and password, which means it isn't simply an open page where anyone can type a control number and check a payment.

For students, the important part is understanding where to get the correct payment instructions, how to use the control number you are given and how to confirm that your payment has been recorded.

Don't pay first and ask questions later.

What Is the VETA Payment Portal?

VETA's main VETMIS portal brings together several services, including training information, short courses, online applications, examinations and the Payment Portal.

The dedicated payment page is currently a login system.

That matters.

It means you shouldn't assume that the VETA Payment Portal works like a public receipt checker where every student can enter a payment reference without signing in. Some payment handling is also done directly through individual VETA centres and their accounting offices.

This is clearly shown in current joining instructions published by VETA.

For example, VETA Mara's 2026 instructions say students receive a government control number from the accountant after arriving at the college.

Other centres use a similar arrangement.

How VETA Payments Usually Work

The exact process can differ slightly depending on the VETA centre, course and type of payment.

But the official 2026 documents show a common pattern.

A student receives an approved government control number from VETA or the relevant VETA centre. The student then pays the required amount using that control number and keeps proof of payment.

At VETA Rukwa, for example, current instructions state that control numbers are issued through the accountant's office and students must submit a copy of their payment receipt to the registrar for recording.

VETA Mara also instructs students to obtain their government payment number from the accountant before making payments.

So the safest process is simple:

Get the payment instructions from your VETA centre first.

Then pay.

Where Do You Get a VETA Control Number?

Don't create one yourself.

And don't use a control number sent by another student.

A control number is linked to a specific payment instruction. Current VETA joining documents show that many centres issue these numbers through their accounts offices.

For example, VETA Nyasa warns students that if they pay using a different control number from the one instructed, the college won't be responsible for the mistake.

That warning is worth taking seriously.

If you've been admitted to a VETA centre, read your joining instructions carefully. They normally explain where the control number comes from and which payments should use it.

How to Pay VETA Fees Using a Control Number

Once you receive the correct control number, follow the payment instructions provided by your VETA centre.

Some centres explicitly allow payment through banks or mobile money agents.

For example, official joining instructions for Chato DVTC state that payments using the assigned control number can be made through mobile network agents or banks.

The exact options available to you may depend on the control number and payment channel.

Before confirming the transaction, check:

  • the control number;

  • the amount;

  • the institution receiving the money;

  • the name or payment description shown;

  • the transaction details.

If something doesn't look right, don't press the final payment button just because you're in a hurry.

How to Verify a VETA Payment

There are two different things people may mean when they search for VETA payment verification.

One is checking whether the transaction itself was successful.

The other is confirming whether VETA has recorded the payment against the student's account.

Those aren't always the same thing.

After paying, keep the SMS confirmation, bank slip or electronic receipt.

Some VETA centres specifically require students to take proof of payment to the institution so it can be recorded. VETA Rukwa's current instructions, for example, tell students to submit a copy of their payment receipt to the registrar and keep their receipts for future reference.

So if your money has left your account but the college says the payment isn't visible yet, your receipt matters.

Can You Verify a Payment Directly on the VETA Payment Portal?

The current public VETA Payments Portal shows a username and password login rather than a public control-number verification form.

So don't expect every student to be able to open that page and immediately verify a payment without account access.

If you already have authorised login details, use the official portal:

VETA Payments Portal Login

If you don't have login credentials, follow the instructions provided by your VETA centre or contact its accounts/registrar office.

Keep Your Payment Receipt

This sounds obvious, but students do lose receipts.

Keep yours.

VETA's current Rukwa joining instructions go as far as telling students that it is their responsibility to retain all payment receipts for the entire period they may be needed for reference.

A payment receipt can help if:

  • the payment hasn't appeared in the college records;

  • there is a difference in the amount recorded;

  • you're asked to prove that fees were paid;

  • the control number was processed but the student's record wasn't updated.

Take a clear photo or save the digital receipt as well.

What If You Paid the Wrong Control Number?

Contact the VETA centre immediately.

Don't make another payment blindly.

Official VETA Nyasa instructions specifically warn students against paying through a different control number from the one issued for their payment.

If you've already made the mistake, gather the transaction receipt, control number, amount, date, phone number or bank details used for payment and your student/admission information.

Then contact the accounts office.

The sooner you report it, the easier it is to explain exactly what happened.

What If the Payment Is Successful but Not Showing?

First, confirm that the transaction actually completed.

Check your mobile money message, banking record or receipt.

Next, check whether you used the correct control number and amount.

If both are correct but VETA hasn't reflected the payment, take the receipt to the relevant accounts or registrar's office.

Don't keep paying the same invoice again because the first payment hasn't appeared immediately.

That can create another problem.

VETA Fees Are Not Always the Same Everywhere

Don't assume every VETA student pays exactly the same amount.

Fees and other charges may depend on the centre, programme, whether the student is day or boarding, insurance requirements and other items listed in joining instructions.

For example, VETA's registered-centre catalogue currently lists Dar es Salaam RVTSC long courses such as ICT, Electronics, Plumbing and Welding with a course fee of TSh 60,000, while centre joining instructions can also include other costs.

The current 2026 joining instructions across centres also show additional charges for things such as identification cards, uniforms, sports, health insurance or examinations.

Use the instructions for your centre.

Check Your VETA Centre Before Paying

VETA maintains an official catalogue of registered vocational training centres.

The catalogue currently lists 951 registered centres, including 36 owned by VETA and 915 owned by other providers.

This is particularly useful if somebody has sent you payment instructions for a training institution you've never dealt with before.

VETA Online Application and Payments Are Different

Don't confuse the VETA application system with the payment login.

VETA has an online application system for long courses, short courses and Recognition of Prior Learning.

Applicants can also register an account by entering personal details, phone number, location, intended training centre and course information.

That system is separate from the dedicated Payments Portal.

Common VETA Payment Problems

Using an old control number

Don't assume a previous payment number is still valid for a new fee.

Use the control number issued for the payment you're making now.

Paying the wrong amount

Check the joining instructions or invoice before completing the transaction.

Some costs may be separate.

Losing the receipt

Save it immediately after payment.

If you're using mobile money, take a screenshot and keep the transaction message.

Paying before getting instructions from the centre

Some current 2026 VETA joining instructions explicitly tell students to receive the control number after reporting to the college or contacting the accounts office.

So don't guess.

Assuming all fees are paid using one control number

That isn't always the case.

Some centres issue separate payment instructions for particular charges, including examination or health-related payments.

Read your own joining letter.
